I’ve Demonstrated success in closing high-value deals, exceeding KPIs, and contributing to the growth of new business divisions. Adept at delivering tailored product demonstrations, conducting competitor analysis, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure client satisfaction and business expansion. However, for the past ten years, I have worked in sales, I have gradually been numbing my creative flare in order to become what often felt like a corporate corpse. Each morning, I would sit on the train with the rest of the zombified bobbleheads, swaying to the rhythm of the track symphony as though I were heading to the gallows for the 300th consecutive day. It has felt at times like a continuous execution of the soul whilst carrying out my designated societal role.At 30, I have decided I can’t do it anymore. My passion has always been creativity, songwriting, acting and scriptwriting in particular. Somewhere along the way, I neglected that part of myself in favour of a “sensible” career. I have spent the last decade selling complex SaaS solutions across various companies, begrudgingly doing well at it. However, I feel the most important thing I have learnt in that time is this: if there’s no passion, there’s no point.Despite my career path, I have continued to nurture my creative interests. I write and release music, and last year achieved a lifelong dream of playing at Glastonbury Festival. In addition to this, I have acted in a Sainsbury’s Valentine’s commercial a soap-style spoof promoting the Dine-In deals, and had a small speaking role in Coronation Street as a police officer.More recently, I became runner-up in a screenwriting competition led by Roland Joffé, director of The Killing Fields. I have no formal training in writing, and I am well aware of my limitations. However, being selected as runner-up from around 2,000 applicants, many with polished, professionally written scripts. It gave me a newfound confidence that this is indeed the path I should follow, or at the very least commit to fully for a period of time and leave no stone unturned. Until now, I have pursued these creative projects passively alongside my career. I have decided to pivot and focus solely on this.I understand I am not your archetypal candidate given my experience mainly being in sales. But I believe If I can perform well in a career I do not love, I know I will put everything into one that I do. I am ready for a new craft to learn and a career that aligns with who I am rather than just what I can do, even if that means starting from scratch.
