He has extensive experience with projects containing high amounts of high end visual effects (including live action projects with animated characters, as well as fully animated projects).
He began his career as a visual effects editor working on productions such as Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, Paul King’s Paddington and Ridley Scott’s The Martian. In 2016 Richard was asked by Director Paul King to join the Paddington team again for PADDINGTON 2. He cut the animatics and previz as the script evolved during pre-production, then alongside Mark Everson during shoot and post, earning his first editor credit in the process.
Richard has since worked as an editor on projects such as Steve McQueen’s BAFTA nominated SMALL AXE for the BBC, Gil Kenan’s A Boy Called Christmas for Studio Canal, Bad Wolf's Industry for HBO, BBC’s Prehistoric Planet for Apple TV+ and most recently Knuckles for Paramount+, Project Hail Mary for Amazon MGM Studios and Man Vs Baby for Netflix UK.
Richard would say that some of the most important things an editor can bring to the cutting room are strong instincts for story, performance, emotion, rhythm and music. That and calmness and a good sense of humour.
