Hello, my name is Jake Williams.
I graduated from Ravensbourne University where I completed a three year BA Hons in Digital Film Production, specialising in screenwriting and ultimately achieving a First.
I’ve always had a passion for writing as far back as I can remember: as a child, aside from copious amounts of reading, I would spend most of the holidays writing and filming with friends, to this day nothing pleases me more than crafting characters and the narratives they could inhabit.
After excelling at English in school, I studied A level Literature, History, Film, and English Language to AS level at Peter Symonds College in Winchester. My love of literature and Worldbuilding also led me to taking an interest in film, another subject I would carry with me to adulthood and found to be integral for both expanding my creative vision and the ability to articulate.
My greatest achievement during college was the nomination of my short film by the lecturers: a project written, directed and edited by myself which went on to be awarded Best Film of the year.
I also attended a summer film course with the Young Film Academy, the resulting short film was screened at the South Bank cinema and won the Best Film award. I consider myself to be a highly creative individual, always striving to push the boundaries in terms of subject and style. I perceive my work to be emotive and to some extent dark, but never without purpose or will.
In my final year at Ravensbourne University I chose to major in screenwriting. As the course progressed it was very clear to me where my strengths of creativity and storytelling would lead, allowing me to intertwine my writing with my love of film. My final year project was the construction of a fantasy based feature-length script titled: A Tale From Dog’s Country, a narrative that explored the perils of revenge in a dark and unusual world through its twisted characters. The experience of crafting worlds and characters was well-practiced for me and this project allowed me to depict that on a larger scale than I was typically used to.
Since university I have continued writing in my own time, completing multiple short stories and screenplays in a variety of genres. I am currently writing and developing a novel of my own with strong gothic and horror influences - an attempt to further refine and improve my work with the hope of publishing it one day. It was this particular personal goal that sparked my interest in publishing as a career prospect and highlighted the importance of audience and societal understanding to the process.
Please peruse my CV. I would welcome the chance to bring my creative insight, collaborative spirit, and growing experience to the industry. I’m excited to continue learning, and to work with likeminded individuals would be a great privilege. I very much look forward to hearing from you.
