Key Skills: Science writing for children, families and non-specialist audiences - research - fact-checking - keen eye-for-detail - organised - flexible

I am currently working as a freelance science writer and presenter for children and families. I devise multi-sensory and participatory activities, workshops and shows and then deliver them to schools, community events and science festivals. I have a keen interest in making science accessible to all, working with many underserved audiences, including children with special educational needs and disabilities. I deliver sessions at conferences and teacher CPD sessions around making inclusive science activities and have won professional prizes for this DEI work.

I am also a science writer, creating engaging copy for children, often including experiments for them to try at home. My work has been published in a range of magazines and I have been writing for Aquila for over 10 years. I also write for learned societies and science centres. Most recently, I have completed my first book, a popular science paperback adults entitled The Future of Agriculture (Icon Books, Aug '25).

My key transferrable skills are a broad knowledge of science topics with expertise in botany and agriculture gleaned from many years in academia and a lifelong curiosity about the world. I am an excellent researcher, skilled in fact-checking and with a keen eye for detail.
