I have worked in a variety of positions; on stage, in contemporary performances and children’s theatre; in production teams, preparing and logging props for stage use; and in more technical, back of house roles. This has meant that I have developed a comprehensive understanding of what the responsibilities are of separate people in creative spaces, and a keen interest in collaborating and creating work from many different positions in a professional environment.
For the last three years, I have been studying Drama and Contemporary Theatre at Manchester School of Theatre, where I have not only developed as a performer, but have studied creative writing, lighting and sound design, and directing and dramaturgy. This has given me the confidence to work with a team and take on leadership roles, and has improved my skills in presenting, research, and writing to a high standard.
I have experience working in customer-facing roles, which has set me up with transferable skills for many different settings. I have four years of hospitality experience, where I have learnt how to communicate effectively in fast-paced environments. I have also worked in administrative roles, such as a Box Office Assistant, where I completed tasks such as handling customer concerns, and connecting with visiting artists over the phone, postal bookings, online. This has given me a strong foundation in the etiquette required when contacting people in a professional manner both online and in-person. In this role, I was also trained in GDPR—and the importance of using caution when handling our customers’ private data— as well as in access and disability awareness.
This experience— along with my background of being raised in a household that fosters — has had a lasting impact on me, and in my work I am invested in inclusivity and accessibility. I have experienced living and working with young people with various visible and hidden disabilities, and whether they have had physical or mental disabilities, I have seen on many occasions how they have been excluded from experiences because of a lack of understanding of their needs. I feel strongly about creating inclusive environments, based on community, where no-one is left out in this way.
I am incredibly patient and hardworking, and I have thrown myself into every opportunity I have been given. In life and in my work, I am always open to listening and learning, so that I might reach my best potential.
