Hello, I’m Olivia!

I’ve recently graduated from the BA Journalism course at the University of Leeds. I loved my time at Leeds, where I learnt about the key components to being an excellent journalist with a critical eye, and also exploring the layers of such a dynamic industry through both practical assignments and academic research.

Alongside my studies, I was heavily involved in student media. As Station Manager (President) of Leeds Student Television in my final year, I oversaw the running of LSTV (finances, training, technology upgrades, projects, industry communications) and supported a committee of 12 other people, as well as over 100 members of the society. I also oversaw a record of society nominations for the National Student Television Awards, where we were awarded in 7 categories overall.

Before being elected into this position, I held the position of Head of Commercial in my second year; this role was unique in the way of improving my financial literacy and negotiating skills, as well as managing client expectations when producing commissions.

I also produced and hosted a bi-weekly radio show ‘LSTV.mp3’ on Leeds Student Radio, for which I won a prestigious Leeds Students Union award for in 2025. Being part of LSTV and LSR helped me to constantly improve my practical journalistic skills outside of my degree, and also gain a solid understanding of project management, planning and the importance of interpersonal communication to deliver an effective, impactful and engaging media product - from light entertainment pieces, to factual documentaries.

I am now keen to launch myself in to a career in the media industry around Manchester. I am currently working as a part-time social media manager for an independent wine and deli store, and also freelancing as a production runner for independent TV agencies and the BBC.
