My experience in local (Malaysian) television production began with corporate videos but I didn't enjoy it and naturally gravitated toward factual programming. We worked in small teams and did journalistic-style filming & storytelling. I did this for about four years (as an Assistant Producer then, a Producer) until the company took a different direction because local demand was not enough.
In 2011, I left the company and landed a gig doing studio shoots. I worked as a Production Manager & Assistant Director on separate projects. It was a learning experience as it involved managing a much bigger crew, multiple cameras and rigging & lighting operations; which was quite different from a run-and-gun type of shoot that I was used to. I later accepted a full time position at Astro, Malaysia's broadcast satellite television station. Content involved children's programming for competitions shot in-studio & working with production houses for drama series.
Fast forward to 2014, I began to work professionally as a scuba diver by filming underwater videos then editing the day's footage to be sold to the divers at the end of the day. The following year, I worked as a divemaster at the same location, eventually learning to become an instructor.
My latest production work (in 2016) involved the contacts I had come to know through my time working in the diving industry, which I was happy to work with, in the capacity of a Researcher / Story Producer.
