Prior to this, I completed my Bachelors degree in Sociology and Policy at the University of the West of Scotland, receiving a first-class honours. These degrees have provided me with a solid foundation to build my future career in the TV and film production industry. I am seeking a starting role in the industry and wish to gain as much experience as I can as a beginner. I am willing to take on runner jobs as well as internships and do not mind if they come under the film or TV sector - although the ultimate goal is to work in film, I would be grateful for any and all opportunities. I am a hardworking, passionate, and driven individual who always strives for the best and is not afraid to push boundaries and explore innovation! Additionally, I am always keen to learn from others.
As a recent graduate, I have not yet been able to gain any experience in the industry - hence why the 'Projects' section on my contains previous retail work experience. Whilst I was a student I still worked a part-time job as a Team Leader/Assistant Visual Merchandiser for popular clothing retailer 'Monki'. This job role, that I still currently hold, has equipped me with essential transferrable skills that I believe are important to roles within the TV and film production sector. These skills include:
-
Leadership & Team Management: I have experience in leading and motivating a team, delegating tasks, and ensuring effective collaboration on the shop floor. This not only maximisies customer satisfaction, but also ensures a boost in team morale and inspiration amongst my colleagues. As the film and TV production industry relies heavily on collaboration and precise coordination to bring a project to life, I find having experience with this skill to be advantageous.
-
Time Management & Scheduling: Managing staff rotas and ensuring tasks are completed on time has equipped me with excellent organisational skills, which aligns with production's tight scheduling.
-
Problem-Solving: Handling unexpected challenges in a fast-paced retail environment, identifying areas for improvement and taking action - a crucial skill on set.
-
Communication: Clear communication with staff and customers, once again this is useful for coordinating with crew and talent.
-
Adaptability & Working Under Pressure: Handling busy sales periods and last-minute changes is comparable to the dynamic nature of production work.
-
Attention to Detail: Managing stock, visual merchandising, and keeping records, which parallels supervision and continuity tasks.
-
Health & Safety Awareness: Enforcing safety protocols in a retail setting. I am also First-Aid and fire safety trained - important for on-set safety compliance.
