In 2008, I began working in media education at sixth form level, managing and teaching a BTEC course in Media Production (Film and TV), before progressing into Higher Education. In my roles as Senior Lecturer and Course Leader, I supported student creative teams in the production of studio shows, dramas, documentaries, animation, corporate and digital content.
In my most recent role as Course Leader for the Digital Television Production BA (Hons) Degree at Ravensbourne University, London (2018-2023), I managed a team of staff and oversaw the academic progress and welfare of hundreds of university students. I oversaw the curriculum, timetable, assessment, course budget and facilities. I ensured that training was delivered in the areas needed and that all students were progressing in their skills and confidence. Check out the course webpage for a flavour of what was involved!
BA (Hons) Digital Television Production | Ravensbourne University London I maintained strong links with the TV Industry and ensured that students connected with media professionals in a wide range of roles and specialisms through guest lectures, workshops, networking events and projects, such as the annual pitch to Channel 4 Commissioning Editors at the C4 Head Office, which I established in 2015.
Under my leadership, students developed valuable transferrable skills and received guidance on freelancing and managing their career development. I held one-to-one tutorials with students focusing on their personal and professional goals and supported them in working towards achieving them.
I sourced numerous clients and live briefs for students to work on. A recent example is the 2023 The London Sports Awards, where second year students produced videos for the awards ceremony and also covered the Awards Ceremony at The Guildhall in London.
London Sport Awards 2023. I mentored teams of students to deliver results on budget and to deadline.
In 2022, TV students set up ‘Creative Capital’ a content creation club and subsequently won a host of awards at the National Student Television Awards. They successfully pitched to host the Awards Ceremony in 2023 which was held at Ravensbourne
Creative Capital 2023 (NaSTA50) and was 100% devised and delivered by students. I’m proud to say that the degree course gave them the grounding in skills and confidence to pull this off.
I work well under pressure and am creative in my approach to solving challenges posed by low-to-no budgets, under-funding and under-investment. For example, during Covid I had to quickly adapt plans to deliver the degree course online, getting equipment out to students' homes and cutting through red tape to make things happen.
I am keen to use my project leadership and problem-solving skills to continue to support projects and talent within Film and Television.
