I'm a practical, seasoned and experienced Producer/Director, Series Producer and most recently an Exec Producer specialising in Specialist Factual, current affairs and history Documentary projects. I have good experience across a broad range of programming including; Observational docs, Presenter-led series, Scripted/unscripted Dramatisations, Expedition Films, Science & Natural History Docs, History, Archive, GFX and physical effects-heavy films for major international and terrestrial broadcasters ( BBC2, ITV, Five, Channel 4, Smithsonian, National Geographic, Discovery US, History, ARTE, and PBS) My most recent projects have been very indepth, analytical & critical Political & History and Current Affairs series focusing on geopolitics, the Middle East, Shia sectarianism, radicalisation and China's global ambiitions. I enjoy making rich, stylish & visual films with strong narratives and a real sense of journey. As a former journalist I have a strong affinity for programming which makes best use of moving testimony to propel its narrative. I am a creative and confident self-shooter (FX9,FS7 MKII / C300 MKII). Most recently I've been working with ultra primes, Fujinon MK series and LTS' Morpheus / Aurora on the Sony FS7, FX9 & Ronin mounted Red Dragon and Sony A7s II. Having self shot for my own edits I am acutely conscious of the need to 'produce' while filming, It's not just about camera operation to a high standard. I pride myself on my ability to stay focused on storytelling, while generating the best material I can so the editors can be confident that they have the coverage, establishers, reverses, cutaways and pick-ups to build great sequences in post. A lot of people can shoot. A lot can produce and direct - but I know I can do all three simultaneously to a high standard. Although I do enjoy self shooting, it is incredibly tough and not always the best route to making successful films. Sometimes the demands of a production technically requires a crew. As a PD 1st, and a self shooter later on in my career I am just as comfortable concentrating on Producing narrative, directing crews and choreographing sequences sometimes with multiple camera ops, jibs and drones. I enjoy taking the lead in creating the visual style of programmes I make, and forging the format on the series I work on. I love being immersed in the pre-production phase of any project. I may be a P/D of some years but I still hold-on to the value of researching, making calls to contributors and, of course, scripting - all skills drummed into me during a long apprenticeship as a researcher & AP back in the day. I am a good writer and am able to craft intelligent narratives at shoot-script stage as well as in the edit. I enjoy interviewing and am always able to get insightful, emotional and honest material from my contributors. I'm organised, thorough and have good awareness of compliance and S & P requirements for all major US and UK broadcasters. Read Less
