Read MoreI’ve worked on the production and development of singles and series for all the major UK broadcasters, as well as feature documentaries and ‘real people’ commercial campaigns. Sensitive access and casting were my bread and butter for a long time, but history is my real passion. I’ve developed history commissions from scratch, plotted and set-up shoots, and briefed on-screen talent and experts on historical stories. I have also sourced and cleared footage, photographs and newspaper content for projects ranging from blue-chip royal history series to true crime boxsets and current affairs singles, both in my role as AP/producer, and more recently as an archive researcher/producer.
My main strengths include complex historical/archival/genealogical research, storytelling, idea generation and development, writing, pitch deck design, and people finding. I also have experience conducting historical research for drama, working closely with scriptwriters to add factual depth and nuance to their characters and narratives. I’m a part-time PhD researcher, spending time at a variety of archives and libraries looking for clues in Tudor manuscripts and books, but I’m equally confident working with more recent archive material.
I love joining projects at any stage of production, but being editorially minded, I particularly enjoy working closely with producers, directors and writers early in a project’s life, using archival material and historical research to shape narrative arcs and feed creative visions. Having one foot in the academic world means I can identify experts and locations, and navigate highly complex academic research and arguments with ease, and it also means I have ready access to a wealth of research material and scholarship. I’m particularly passionate about facilitating smooth and enjoyable collaborations between academics and producers, and telling historic stories that balance academic integrity and nuance with popular appeal.
