After many years experience of working on the floor and crowd as a Floor 2nd AD / 3rd AD, I feel it’s time to move up the ladder to Key / Crowd 2nd AD. I think its essential for everyone climbing the AD ladder. The training received (Succeed as a 2nd AD in high-end TV and film) through Screen Skills/DV Talent has been invaluable in highlighting some of the hurdles ahead in the roles, as well as many of the best practices.
Being on set is my big love and believe one of my biggest strengths is working with other people. I feel it's very important to lead by example, as well as being able to motivate others to bring out their best, so that everyone can get the day completed, while being happy with what's achieved. I'm not shy to get stuck in and graft at all levels and jobs needing doing. I feel the best crews are when everyone works in sync as one team. As opposed to lots of individuals all just looking out for themselves. As ADs we can be the glue that makes this happen.
To be a First AD has always been my big goal. But I also strongly believe that it's very important to know exactly what a 2nd AD does and contributes from first-hand experience. I think this helps makes the 1st a better and more prepared 1st AD. As well as having a realistic understanding of what they are asking and expecting from their 2nd AD.
As always first-hand experience is key.
I'm ready for the extra responsibility and forward thinking the role expects.
