However, it was during university that I truly saw the path to turning this passion into a career. During my three years at university, I worked both within and outside my studies, seeking every opportunity to gain hands-on experience. I reached out to notable alumni and industry professionals to absorb as much knowledge and insight as I could.
Alongside my several roles within the camera/lighting department per year, I had the privilege of writing and directing twice during my studies, most notably for my third-year graduate film. With a medium-sized budget, the project featured both an intimacy coordinator and an armorer, giving me invaluable hands-on experience akin to industry expectations. Being involved throughout the entire production process, I worked closely with specialists across various departments, making the experience both educational and incredibly rewarding. Like every project I’ve been a part of, I thrived in the high-stakes environment, embracing the problem-solving challenges that inevitably arise in filmmaking. In the past year, since moving to London in May, I have been employed three times as camera assistant all working for the same 2nd Assistant Camera Person, importantly improving my relationships within the industry. Each production brings its own set of unique tasks and challenges, ensuring that I’m always learning and growing — an aspect of filmmaking I find endlessly fulfilling.
I really appreciate and value each role within the team, always wanting to further my knowledge and experience in each role so that when I work within my desired department, as camera person again, I can better aid and understand.
