My previous roles as production co-ordinator or production manager involved being responsible for the general management of scheduling, budget, facilities or locations, equipment, and crew for short film, documentary and television productions. Whenever necessary, I assisted other departments, and have spent time in Art Department (for both set dressing and wardrobe), and Research.
Coming up with solutions to problems is a pre-requisite for production co-ordinators and managers, especially when issues occur on the fly. I have had extensive experience with this, working on live studios shows such as SA’s Got Talent as well Class Act. Events have also been a key area for much of my work experience as the reality shows I worked on have a live element.
Another career highlight would be Imagine Afrika, a reality show which had contestants competing in 3 different countries per season. I was able to start as a production assistant, was promoted to production co-ordinator for the second season, and was production manager for the third and final season. I was able to co-ordinate international travel and accommodation for cast and crew, including visas etc. During my last year, I was able to further my skills when I stayed on after filming as post production manager.
Additionally, I spent 10 years working at Supersport, an international sports broadcaster, where I worked in both Outside Broadcast and Studio environments. During this time, I was able to learn how to maximise resources across these two departments, balancing special tournament requirements such as the FIFA World Cup with live OB productions. Additionally, I was charged with outlining requirements to other departments or employees and dealing with various stakeholders and clients.
I have had experience in setting up new offices, often having to create an administrative headquarters in unusual circumstances when on location. Developing and streamlining administrative systems is a particular interest which I was able to use during my most recent position at Supersport, where I was able to contribute to a unique online system which managed bookings between various departments. Whilst there, I also established SOPs for my department, trained new employees and sourced specialist crew, assisting with onboarding and orientation.
