As a writer and filmmaker, I work in the genre of autobiographical, coming-of-age fiction. Inspired by my multicultural heritage and a childhood during which I moved often, I am interested in examining what it feels like to be an outsider, both within and beyond our own families, and how such an experience can provide loneliness and freedom in equal measure. I create work with an analog and nostalgic feel, shooting on 16mm film for my moving image projects, which are often set in the 1980s or 90s, and using printed matter from decades-old magazines to hand-make my collages. All of my work is grounded in visual and historical research.
This includes my first short film, Blisters, set in Manhattan, 1983, which I produced, co-wrote and co-directed in 2024. Set at the intersection of the real and the imagined, Blisters is a bilingual drama about an unassertive Turkish teenager named Moon, who is tasked with helping her father run his deli on the night of its 24/7 opening. A few blocks away, Moon’s idol David Bowie embarks on his first tour in five years, prompting her to revel in fantasies of her own superstardom. Blisters premiered in the UK at the 2025 Aesthetica Short Film Festival.
I also work in film, television and advertising. Mostly recently, I was the director's assistant on an untitled feature film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, starring Tom Cruise, which is slated for release in 2026. I have also worked as a director’s assistant, art department coordinator and visual researcher on productions directed by Wes Anderson, Lena Dunham, Andrea Arnold, Danny Boyle and Autumn de Wilde. My first job in the industry was as the assistant to director Kim Gehrig on her award-winning, boundary-pushing ad for Bodyform, Viva la Vulva.
I am also a collage artist. My mixed media artwork has been published by publications such as The New York Times, The Atlantic, i-D, ELLE, VICE, Crybaby Zine and brands such MaxMara, Lazy Oaf, Gail's Bakery, Boots and Kathmandu. I am particularly passionate about creating work with a soulful, handmade sensibility.
From 2020-2024, I freelanced as an art director for WePresent, WeTransfer’s editorial platform, which tells weird and wonderful stories about creativity. Inspired by the company's mission to be the most representative site on the Internet, I championed undiscovered artists from countries typically less visible in Western media. I art-directed visuals for most WePresent articles, wallpapers and newsletters, working with renowned creatives such as the Guerrilla Girls and Olafur Eliasson on artist manifestos written by Roxane Gay and Sheila Heti, among others.
