As a story consultant, script editor, and self-confessed story-structure nerd, I pride
myself on combining an occasionally lamentable obsession with how stories work with a passion for
helping writers to tell the stories they need to tell.

After years of travelling and teaching English around the world, I returned to Ireland to complete
an MA in Screenwriting from the National Film School in 2019/20. I achieved a 1.1. More
importantly though, I realised that 1) I could see and understand story structure and core principles in
a way that did not come as naturally to others, and 2) I could help them with that. It was the best
part of my former job combined with my passion for film and storytelling. I. Was. Hooked.

Since then, I have:
- worked on multiple projects as a script editor / story consultant, including with producers such as
Rebecca Bourke; directors such as Mia Mullarkey, Stevie Russell, and Lochlainn McKenna; and
authors such as Niamh Mulvey (testimonials at markoveranalysesstory.com/testimonials).
- been a trusted reader of new work for Ireland’s National Theatre, The Abbey, for 2 years.
- become the external reader for competitions run by Ardán, RTE, and Fís Eireann / Screen Ireland.
- created my own podcast about how story structure works in films (Mark Overanalyses Film). This
has charted around the world, including as high as #2 in the Irish Film Review Podcast Charts.
- taught on the same MA in the National Film School, as well as for Griffith College Dublin and
Publishing Ireland.
- written two original short films that were shot in 2024 and are currently in post-production.
- read screenplays and written coverage for a number of production companies.

Whether as a story consultant, script editor, or teacher, my favourite thing to do is to talk to other
writers and creators, get into their heads, and facilitate them figuring out what they want to say and
how they want to say it. For me, that’s not only the spark, but the real fun of the thing. Read Less
