I write and edit my Substack publication, Mabel Media, and I have previously worked for Future Publishing as a photo studio assistant and a content writer. During my time with Future as a photo studio assistant, I was given the opportunity to set up and design a photoshoot, and my images were then used as the lead images in that month’s featured article in T3 magazine. I studied art and design and then creative media production at Bath College, and I also studied a BFI Academy course in documentary filmmaking, on which I was the editor, contributor, camera operator and graphic designer for a short five minute documentary called ‘Being Me’. I have also created several of my own short experimental films, and I am currently working on a script, a novel and a picture book. My ultimate drive in all of my art is storytelling, and this is what ties together all of my creative disciplines. I started a degree in film and television at UAL, during which time I took on the role of producer of a live broadcast for the LCC television studios, which I found incredibly rewarding and an excellent exercise of my leadership abilities. I also got to know the ins and outs of a broadcast studio from behind the mixing desk to the studio, and this gave me the responsibility of organising an entire crew to create the final vision of the filmmaking team. I left UAL in my second year to pursue my career on my own path, but the experience and training I gained from university and the BFI Academy was invaluable and forms the basis of a lot of my knowledge. I have also worked as an assistant director of photography on a Bristol-based music video shoot, and two of my shots were used as the most recurring footage throughout the film. On this shoot I also shot, edited and entirely created the behind the scenes video which the music artist used as content for his recording label. I have spent the least year building up my portfolio by finishing all of my unfinished filmmaking projects, which are now all available on my YouTube channel. These include documentation of my life, as well as twenty minute longer-form films telling stories of my life and travels. At the moment I am writing articles on my Substack publication every week, and working on my next short documentary, short film, novel and picture book.
