Naturalist with extensive wetland and rainforest experience looking to use my natural world knowledge and research skills to contribute to wildlife film as a researcher. Through my work, I have seen and understand that biodiversity needs the advocacy of wildlife film now more than ever; this need will only increase in the face of climate change.
I was in the Amazon Rainforest for the 2022 dry season working with the Instituto Juruá. This involved scientific expeditions with local teams to study black caiman, boto, tucuxi, manatee and arapaima (GPS tagging, measuring, sample collection for genetic analysis etc). This was the first study of its kind on arapaima. My role included providing both scientific expertise (for example advising on how to keep sampled animals unharmed and alive) and practical support (such as in capturing large black caiman). I needed to do much of this working with local teams speaking only Brazilian Portuguese. Some of this work was filmed by a National Geographic crew as part of their Perpetual Planet/River Guardians project. My photographs in this process were used in subsequent Instituto Juruá/National Geographic Society presentations.
In the 2023 dry season I spent six months in the Pantanal working with jaguars. This involved locating, photographing and GPS tracking them, and lecturing on their evolution, behaviour, morphology etc. I studied and lectured about their ecosystem and other animals there (giant otters, hyacinth macaws, tapirs etc).
I also filmed much of the footage for a yet-to-be released short film for 'The Borrowed Earth Project' which advocates for biodiversity conservation in the face of the climate crisis.
