After completing work experience for Articulated Productions at Warner Brothers on Batman: Vengeance back in March 2020, I have wanted to pursue a career in production. I found the ins and out of prop making props fascinating and all about how certain chemicals are used. I really enjoyed working in props as it combines my making skills with my ability to creatively problem solve. Seeing my work on the big screen was extremely rewarding.
I was lucky enough to have a brief but extremely valuable experience on set for ‘Apex’ as a Standby Prop Trainee in July before the actors' strikes stopped production. I was on standby to quickly respond to instructions during cuts while filming on set via a radio throughout the course of the day. I also worked closely with different departments to ensure the correct props were on set, with the right cast member or ready to be used for the next shot. These skills along with my adaptability can easily be transferred to different production process or setting.
Throughout my time at university, it was made evident that my strengths include attention to detail, self-motivation and overall curiosity. I received positive feedback on my experimental approach to projects, conceptual thinking and detailed design rationale. I was successfully able to organise my time around three different projects running at the same time, each with different deadlines. My attention to detail and high level of accuracy was particularly made evident with the project that was a physical representation of my reading of a Wrinkle in The Realm. This involved two different aspects to work together: using InDesign to ensure the spacing of the text along the circle as well as physically ensuring the measurements were correct to make a successful tunnel book. My written communication was clear when it came to explaining my thought process behind each project, which was also helped through the writing skills I learnt during my English A-Level.
While working as a Production Assistant for Promedia Digital Limited organisation and flexibility was key. I had up to 10 magazines that required approval each month, each member of the sales team requiring something from me daily as well as different digital assets needing to be put live and scheduled on the relevant websites each day. Google sheets were used to keep track of everything to ensure magazine deadlines were met and clients order were fulfilled and Excel would be used to gather and create statistic reports for each sales team to see the engagement and performance. I would make a daily to do list although I would be ready and on hand to assist or support with last minute changes or tasks.
Working in hospitality fulltime since September and along my studies at university I have developed a wide range of skills. With a range of different numbers of covers and members of staff, all at different stages at different times throughout the shift, I work well under pressure and within a team with a tight deadline of even only a few minutes to do certain things. My interpersonal skills are constantly demonstrated, having to explain certain information clearly while maintaining a good rapport with my colleagues and customers as well as occasionally having to defuse tension when misunderstandings occur.
I am always looking for ways to go above and beyond as well as improve. Therefore, I would take full advantage of all the training, support and opportunities during this role. My determination is driven by a constant willingness to learn and an open mind. I am keen to embrace challenges and welcome opportunities.
