Originally from Maceió, Brazil, he has worked with innovative teams for TV networks and streaming services such as Amazon Prime, Peacock/NBC, Epix/MGM, Paramount, MRC Non-Fiction, Discovery, History, Quibi, and Lifetime on television and feature documentary films.
João’s journalism background informs his storytelling. He was a producer and writer with Canada’s public broadcaster, CBC. He teamed up with CBS 60 Minutes producer and Emmy Award-winning journalist Peter Klein at the Global Reporting Centre, working with fellow journalists, filmmakers and collaborators in several countries to produce high-impact investigative projects.
He was part of the multi-award-winning Strangers at Home, a crowd-sourced documentary series on xenophobia exploring the nuances behind extremism and its ripple effects across Europe, shown from the perspectives of storytellers from different European countries.
His work has also appeared on The Associated Press, Global News, and Globo TV. João has a Master of Journalism from the University of British Columbia. He grew up dipping his toes in clear turquoise waters on the northeast coast of Brazil, listening to bossa nova and finding constant inspiration in his country’s fascinating culture.
