My name is Roman Willi. I am an award winning wildlife photographer, filmmaker and conservationist from Lucerne, Switzerland. I have a bachelor of science FHGR & BFH in media engineering with a focus on film and animation.

Before going freelance in 2022, I was working as a cinematographer, director and editor for countless commercials and corporate videos in the television industry. With the experience I gained over the years, I now develop my own wildlife documentaries and photography projects while working as a freelance filmmaker and photographer for NGOs and production companies all over the world. I also host my own exhibitions, give talks and lead workshops.
 
My wildlife photography has been awarded internationally several times – including two times as highly commended at the prestigious Wildlife Photographer Of The Year competition. My debut documentary KALU – Growing Up Wild and following documentary SANDCASTLE - The Secret Life Of Potter Wasps have won awards in filmfestivals all over the world. 

In 2024 I co-founded WildReach Production – a collective producing  natural history documentaries and branded content.
 
For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by nature, especially animals. I strive to capture unique, never before seen behaviours of animals. My belief is that creating these kinds of images is essential to raise awareness for wildlife conservation.  Especially the often misunderstood invertebrates have always interested me. This is the reason macro is my main focus. Besides filming & photographing swiss wildlife, I love to travel and explore the biodiversity, especially in the rainforest.
Ethics are very important to me when photographing & filming wildlife. The health and wellbeing of the animal always comes first.
