I am a Somali-Dutch journalist based in London with nearly ten years of experience across digital, video, and investigative journalism. My work has appeared in BuzzFeed News, Yahoo News UK, and Almost, where I have reported on breaking news, internet culture, technology, politics, human rights, and international affairs.
Throughout my career, I have specialised in identifying emerging stories before they reach mainstream attention, using social media monitoring, verification techniques, and online research to uncover and develop agenda-setting reporting. I have covered major global news events, reported overnight on breaking stories, hosted live streams, and produced content designed for digital-first audiences across multiple platforms.
I am highly fluent in social media trends and online audience behaviour, with extensive experience identifying stories that resonate with audiences and translating complex developments into engaging, accessible journalism.
Alongside reporting, I have developed strong open-source intelligence (OSINT) and verification skills, including geolocation, reverse image searching, source verification, timeline reconstruction, chronolocation, and user-generated content verification. I am currently finishing a Master's degree in Investigative and Human Rights Journalism, building on almost a decade in the industry to further strengthen my investigative reporting, verification, and human rights journalism skills.
At BuzzFeed News, I spent almost seven years reporting on breaking news, internet culture, technology, and global affairs, while helping launch and edit Seasoned, BuzzFeed UK's Black British vertical. My reporting often focused on communities and stories overlooked or misrepresented by mainstream media.
Following my reporting at BuzzFeed on Andrew Tate, I later consulted for Sandpaper Films on the Sky Documentaries production Doom Scroll: Andrew Tate and the Dark Side of the Internet, supporting research, fact-checking, contributor sourcing, and editorial development. I have also worked as a photographer and multimedia journalist, creating visual content alongside written reporting.
My work sits at the intersection of culture, technology, identity, and social change. Whether reporting on major international developments, investigating online communities, or telling human-centred stories, I am passionate about making complex issues accessible, connecting with audiences through compelling storytelling, and amplifying voices that are too often overlooked.
