I am looking to get immersed in the world of media and the natural world in whatever manner possible. I have a widespread skillset that I am constantly looking to improve on, with the academic, technical and physical skills necessary to overcome a great variety of challenges, and the passion and creativity to bring to any project.
I can offer high levels of scientific understanding and a pre-existing wide knowledge base of natural history. My degree focussed on marine systems, in which I have a deep understanding and admiration, however also branched into wider topics of evolution and ecology. In addition, I have the research experience and process practised and proven throughout my degree. Synthesis and delivery of complex ideas is an area I am confident and proficient in.
This aptitude in communication manifests in many ways. Last year I worked as an Education Host at Bournemouth Oceanarium, in which I had multiple daily talks of ten to twenty minutes in which I spoke about the animal(s) that were being fed at the time. I took pride and pleasure in the regular updating and changing of my material with the most up-to-date research, and my own continued reading. I also took it upon myself to compose posters around areas of interest (Sunscreen toxicity in the sea, Plastic pollution etc.) for display to the public. I have also through my degree and this employment had the pleasure of working alongside a variety of experts, either collaborating on pieces of research or questioning them on the work they are doing. I have also been on the other end, and have been interviewed on topics of marine biology for student projects.
The importance of visual communication is very clear to me, and although I have no professional qualifications I have pursued photography and videography for over ten years as an amateur. I used to run an Instagram photography account with over ten thousand followers, and ran a photography and videography business while working as a Divemaster in Thailand. Throughout my degree I have presented and edited videos for assignments, for which I received distinctions. My highest acclaim is winning a national film competition for my documenting of my Gold DofE expedition, a piece of work I am still proud of.
Underlying all of this is a passionate, energetic individual with a wide range of practical skills. I am a qualified PADI Divemaster, a highly proficient sailor and boat handler, physically fit and nature-loving. Whatever the physical or mental demands, I am confident in my ability to work within the team and achieve our goals.
I am aware of my lack of media-focused qualifications and experience but I am confident in my foundation knowledge provided through my amateur works, and in my ability to learn fast. Thank you for the time you have taken to read this, don't hesitate to reach out for more details.
