“artsy” films, but I started building a portolio of my own work in 2016. Working with amateur local
production companies I have had the opportunity to write, direct, act and produce.
I came into the industry 2 years ago, following my prior career as a finance manager and starting as
an Accounts Clerk in film stepping up to my current role as Payroll Accountant. During this time, I
have gained an understanding of each department’s role; Working closely with each key coordinator
to know what the requirements and outcomes are for each cog in the machine. I have also
volunteered to be a Supporting Artist on two blockbuster productions so that I could really get
involved with the action and experience some time on a large-scale set.
One of my favourite things about the TV and film industry is that no two days are the same. You are
required to think on your feet and pivot at any moment to solve problems. Every day is filled with
challenges and my career to date has really demonstrated my ability to work under pressure in a fastpaced
environment and to have a keen eye for detail. In accounts we have very tight deadlines and
must work collaboratively with other departments to get the right information at the right time to
meet these deadlines.
One of my key skills that has allowed me to develop my career, even adapting to a new environment,
is my eagerness to learn and ability to communicate confidently. I have a natural empathetic nature
which allows me to flex to different communication styles and I am always looking to understand and
learn more about where I am. We are often required to be a liaison between the UPM and crew,
always balancing different demands.
Being a team player is the key to any successful working environment. A team that blends as needed
and supports each other as well as collaborates, helps produce the most successful outcomes.
