Read MoreJo Garrity is an editor, writer, and director originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. He partners with artists, agencies, and brands to create innovative and award-winning projects across film, television, music, theatre, and advertising.
While studying genetics at UC Berkeley, Jo pivoted into filmmaking during a semester at NYU’s Spring at Tisch program, learning 16mm film production, flatbed editing, and interning on Season 34 of Saturday Night Live, “when it was good.” He went on to work with the Pacific Film Archive, Telluride Film Festival, and Pixar Animation Studios, assisting in the editorial department on THE GOOD DINOSAUR, INSIDE OUT, and FINDING DORY.
Jo wrote and directed the narrative short film TWINSBURG, a tragicomic ode to his identical twinship, which screened internationally at 50 film festivals and won 10 top awards, including Taos Shortz, Napa Valley, and Dances With Films. Expanding on the film, he guest lectures at Harvard Divinity School on the mythology of twinship and co-wrote with his brother Phil Garrity Epilogue: Dialogue, a chapter included in the anthology Gemini and the Sacred: Twins and Twinship in Religion and Mythology.
Jo served as lead editor and assistant director of WATERGATE, a six-part documentary series by Academy Award-winning director Charles Ferguson for A&E/History, which played theatrically at Telluride, NYFF, and Berlinale. He has directed and edited music videos for artists including Crumb and Alvvays, and his video for “In Undertow” earned 3.7M views and led to performing live audiovisuals on the band’s international tours. As a creative director and copywriter, he has collaborated on campaigns for brands like Bushmills, Tiffany & Co, Netflix, and PepsiCo.
