It was here that I realised this role utilised a lot of skills I had been commended for in general life, such as my ability to organise, adapt, and remain calm in stressful situations. Now knowing this and knowing that I loved being on set in every capacity, and on the go, running around, solving problems, and collaborating with others for a shared goal, I concluded that being a 1st AD was now the ideal career for me.
During my time at university, I took the role of 1st AD on an independent short film, adapted from an original play which we had previously taken to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This, along with a couple of other smaller projects solidified my new career plan, and not only did I love the role, but I was also good at it.
Now, with the knowledge that professional sets are an incredible step up from this, and in many ways, they are not even comparable, I am eager to learn the ropes from the bottom up. I am eager to get stuck in as a runner and pursue a career in this field, and feel I have the necessary motivation and dedication to achieve this goal.
