I am Brian McGovern, a highly skilled Camera Assistant with a diverse range of experience in the television and film industry. I hold an HND in Television Production from City of Glasgow College and an HNC in Photography from West College Scotland, which have provided me with a strong foundation in my craft.
Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work on various exciting projects. More recently, I have been working as a location camera operator for ITV, operating cameras and managing complex setups for live and pre-recorded news segments. My experience as a news camera operator has honed my skills in handling high-pressure environments and delivering top-quality footage under tight deadlines.
Additionally, I have worked with Outside Broadcasts for Sky Sports in Scottish football and Cloudbass for Question Time on BBC. My work with BBC also includes camera assistant roles on factual programs like Ultimate Wedding Planner and Seirm, a Gaelic music program. I have also contributed to shows such as Love it or List it for Channel 4, Scotland's greatest escapes for BBC Scotland, and several independent short films.
Prior to my camera assistant roles, I started my career as a runner, working on productions like Tool Club for Channel 4, Gordon Ramsay's Future Food Stars for BBC, and the COP26 conference for the host broadcaster, where I gained experience as a cable basher.
In addition to my extensive professional experience, I possess a wide range of skills, including focus pulling, data wrangling and management, camera building and rigging, remote camera setup and operation, as well as second shooting and slating. One of my career highlights includes operating a camera during the signing of the COP26 agreement, successfully supporting 12 cameras and managing their media and feeds to the director, both wired and wireless.
Outside of work, I have personal interests that contribute to my overall character and approach to my craft. I have a passion for DIY projects, film photography, and rock climbing. These hobbies have helped cultivate my patience, attention to detail, and care, which I bring to my work as a camera assistant.
I am an active member of BECTU and consistently strive to enhance my skills and stay updated with the latest industry developments.
