Read MoreMy name is Peter Simpkins, and I am a freelance camera and graphics operator with experience in filming, broadcasting, lighting, editing, content creation and sound design, looking for an entry level position in a large-scale events, broadcast or media company, which will allow me to build on my existing skills and learn new ones, so I can take the next step in my career in media.
As a freelance camera operator and live editor for sports broadcaster Vinco, I have experience of camera crews on live shoot days and the post production process. I have assisted in the transport, operation and rigging/de-rigging of various lighting, sound and AV equipment, including NX5, NX5R, NX5E and FS9 cameras, various DSLR cameras, GoPro cameras, gimbals, panel, camera lights and spotlights, shotgun, lapel and handheld microphones.
I have also used Adobe Premiere pro and Final Cut Pro to edit and archive live track and field events for the Vinco website. My freelance work also includes setting up the filming and recording of squash games and local live music events, using Pitchero, Loomly and Meta Business Suite CMS systems to create and schedule video reels for their respective social media pages, including Facebook and Instagram, for additional marketing purposes. I also work as a freelance editor, editing large multi camera events including weddings and funerals.
Recently I have joined DNG Event Crew where I assist with the unloading of trucks and event materials, helping to rig and derig of lighting, sound, and AV setups. I am responsible for assembling and disassembling event structures, working with the crew chief and other crew members to troubleshoot basic technical issues.
I have previous experience in a live broadcast gallery, working as a freelance gallery-based graphics operator for ADI TV, using a combination of Caspar Playout and live graphics to provide in-game graphics for EFL championship football, giving me a good technical knowledge of vMix video switching software, Dante Networking Platform and troubleshooting methods relating to real time graphics, using Adobe Photoshop to create backup alternatives for pre-made club graphics if needed.
I achieved a distinction in my MA in TV Production in 2020. During my MA I organised and ran shoot days, contacting and negotiating with contributors as well as arranging transport and budgeting. I performed running duties, recces, filled in risk assessments, health and safety forms and location permits as well as helped operate and rig/de-rig equipment.
I am a reliable, conscientious and self-motivated individual, with a full clean driver’s license and car who adopts a mature, professional and enthusiastic approach to everything I undertake. I believe my experience and passion for production, combined with my energy, creativity and hard-working nature, make me an ideal candidate for this exciting role, allowing me to take my career in media to the next level.
