Dan and I worked together on 'Home Away from Home' at the BBC. He's a calm, assured PD who had the immense task of shooting 20 eps of programme material on a very tight schedule. He has strong editorial judgement and works above and beyond to get the extra sequences that matter. He shoots well, is organised and led a loyal team. I have recently had the pleasure of working with Dan. He was a lead PD on a demanding ten part obs doc series about the East Coast train company and I have to say he did a brilliant job. He worked incredibly hard, often away from home and responsible for running his own small team on location. Dan quickly established a trusting and fruitful relationship with contributors and could be trusted to work with the most sensitive among them. He was very well organised editorially and I was impressed by his story telling instincts. He always had an eye on the bigger picture and went the extra mile to get all the elements needed to make the most of any story both visually and editorially. His shooting was excellent and we were repeatedly complimented by our comm ed on how well the series was shot. The schedule did not allow for PDs to see films through the edit so I can’t comment on editing but given his wealth of experience, the judgement calls he made in producing the quality of the stories he brought to the series, I have no hesitation in recommending him all round.
