I'm a Multicamera Director of Emmy, BAFTA (Programme, Craft and Cymru), IFTA, Grierson, RTS (Programme, Craft and Regional), Broadcast, NTA, NRTA, BPG and Realscreen winning television.
I'm experienced in directing traditional Studio and Outside Broadcast programming including discussion show “I’m A Celebrity: The Daily Drop”, gameshows “Release the Hounds” and Netflix's "Superfan vs Superfan", news coverage for Sky’s “Election Newsroom: Live”, historical cookery series “Royal Recipes”, as U.K. director of WWE Wrestling’s regular “NXT UK” Events for WWE Network & BT Sport. In addition last September I was extremely proud to have worked as part of the BBC Events Outside Broadcast Directing Team in the five days leading up to and morning of the funeral of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II as a live multicamera director (and producer) providing world feed coverage of events at the Palace of Westminster.
I also work regularly as an experienced Series/Senior Director involved in the pre-production and realisation of multiple complex fixed rig set ups including Virtual and Augmented Reality as well the development of fully remote operations to direct and operate on rig projects overseas. I've been responsible for camera and gallery planning for “One Born Every Minute”, “Educating Yorkshire/East End/Cardiff”, “Ibiza Weekender”, “S.A.S.:Who Dares Wins” ,“The Circle”, “Eden”, “Five Guys/Dates A Week”, "The Cabins", “The Hotel”, 8 series of “First Dates: Ireland” amongst many, many more.
Having worked consistently in the genre since it emerged in 2009, I am consequently one of the most prolific and experienced "Fixed Rig" directors in the U.K. and the first with credits for primetime BBC and itv plus live and recorded primetime broadcast projects for Ch4 and Sky. I'm also regularly employed as a consultant director during the development and planning process of these types of projects.
In addition I am proud to remain a highly skilled and award winning Cameraman, used to operating and supervising in both Outside Broadcast and Studio environments usually live. I have over 30 years of broadcast experience including 27 years of Camerawork and 17 years of directing television.
I still camera operate on some of the most complex events in the world and am particularly proud to be the only UK based operator to have contributed to the host broadcasts of Opening or Closing Ceremonies for the Beijing, London and Tokyo Summer Olympic Games. Other high profile operating highlights include "Live Earth", "Royal Wedding of William and Catherine", Diamond and Golden Jubilee Event Coverage, U.K. General Elections (incl Live Downing Street Coverage), "Cricket, World Test Final", "Brit Awards", "BAFTA (Film, Television & Children's) Awards, "Rugby World Cup Final" and every Wimbledon Singles Final since 2009. Even more recently I was honoured to have been entrusted with filming the Coronation of HM King Charles III at Westminster Abbey as one of the small number of operators contribuing to the main host coverage from the heart of the ceremony within the "theatre of coronation" itself, a day I will obviously never forget.
Over the past 14 years, programmes/series I directed on (The Family S1, One Born S1&S2, 24hrs In A&E S1, Educating Yorkshire/East End and The Dog House S2) have been nominated for 8 BAFTA Programme Awards including 6 times for Best Factual Series, One Born won in 2010. More specifically I was honoured to personally collect the 2016 RTS Craft Award for Best Multicamerawork for my role as director of "Release The Hounds", I'd previously collected this same award as the chosen representative of the camera and directing team on "The Family" plus "24hrs in A&E" also won in this discipline with "One Born Every Minute" and "Educating Yorkshire" additionally nominated in this category.
