throughout Africa in the high end safari and conservation sector for 10 years. I am a trained Field Guide with specialist knowledge of
animal behaviour & birdlife from many different ecosystems, through this I have collected a highly resourceful research skill on all natural history matters. I have many connections spread throughout the wildlife areas of Africa who have direct access to on the ground current wildlife behaviour.
As a guide and host, it was my job to impart my knowledge to give everyone the best understanding of the immediate surroundings. This was done with a greater background story in mind and needed excellent communication skills. I strongly believe that my experience is transferable into Natural History Production and my knowledge can be used effectively in realising the goals of any wildlife production. My knowledge of animal behaviour makes it second nature to find an engaging story behind any subject.
I am highly
experienced in photographing wildlife in their natural habitats, having lived in natural wildlife areas for many years with everything on my doorstep and a camera permanently attached to my body. I have a great understanding in particular with photographing birdlife and African Great Apes. I have had several wildlife images published in books, competitions, magazines and brochures. I consider myself a highly trained specialist in many countries across Africa. This work has given me a great confidence in working in
remote and hostile wildlife areas, with dangerous animals, poachers and rebels ever present.
As a photographer, I keep up to date with related technology and software. I understand all the working elements of photographic gear and the basics of video kit. I know how to keep this valuable equipment protected from the harsh elements in wilderness areas and the delicacy of traveling with it through international airports.
I have helped on many photographic and video shoots in the wilderness. I’m a fast learner, often having to teach myself needed new skills with little access to the outside world. I have media and content creation experience in the form of blogs and social media posts aimed at keeping previous and future clients interested. These were wildlife orientated, creating a narrative around 'safari life'.
Permanent and Short-term work in remote areas, operating at high end levels, make me a highly organised person to ensure that the operations run smoothly. Mistakes would lead to complaints that are highly damaging or much worse in hostile areas. I have worked as a management consultant, helping with establishing and reviving projects in Virunga National Park in the DRC and the Omo Valley in Ethiopia. In such independent roles I have helped build successful projects within strict budgets and deadlines. It was necessary to rapidly develop working relationships with local businesses. This remote work has afforded me a highly diverse skillset, from building and maintenance management to fine administration and computer software skills to attentive staff management and fostering international connections. I have worked with numerous people from diverse backgrounds, as a manager of teams up to 60 people with senior managers directing from afar, needing an independent work ethic to maintain a collective goal. When working with local teams I always take active, involved roles within the lives of colleagues and strive for the betterment of the team, often taking on apprentices to develop their skillset.
