"Candida has the all too rare ability to create content at both ends of the spectrum. She moves easily from high-quality public service programming to broad appeal commercial shows because she understands narrative and gets that human emotion and heart are the core of great storytelling."SUE WOODFIELD — CHIEF CONTENT OFFICER NHNZ
Candida trained at the BBC as an investigative journalist and a documentary director and producer. She's a filmmaker with a flair for character-driven storytelling. She has worked around the world specialising in a wide range of long form documentary projects filmed in Australasia, New Zealand, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, The Philippines, Borneo and Laos.
Her adventures include spending ten weeks in the jungle in Borneo directing a series about orangutans and two months in Laos producing and directing a two part history documentary series for Nat Geo. Many of her projects have had global success. She produced and directed award winning series Down for Love which hit number 4 on UK Netflix’s most watched shows. She’s also successfully developed several of her own projects, including New Zealand’s first four-part true crime documentary series commissioned by Canal + and Discovery. This was nominated for four awards; best factual documentary series, best director, best musical score and best editor. Her investigative documentary series Reality Trip about sweatshops in Bangladesh, Philippines and Sri Lanka was selected for the Prague Film Festival. Grand Designs NZ was nominated as best factual show while she was series producing it. She can confidently navigate complicated narratives and manage shoot and edit teams at home and abroad.
