In 2022, Tawiah joined the University of Maryland, College Park’s 30 Under 30 Alumni and the North Carolina Triad's List of 40 Under 40 Most Influential African Americans. Tawiah is also well cited as a co-author of one of the top 10 most cited publications in the Journal of Hydrometeorology since 1990.Tawiah has earned a master's degree in Applied Meteorology from Mississippi State University, a B.S. in Atmospheric & Oceanic Science and a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD). Tawiah was named the first student at the university to dual-degree in these two areas of study at UMD.
