This exciting role encompasses numerous roles in filmmaking including:
Pre-production - researching topical stories to pursue; identifying scientists to participate; writing scripts, storyboards and shot lists; production management (consent, health and safety and insurance paperwork, finding filming locations).
Production - running the shoot days; supporting the videographer and sound engineer on set.
Post-production - sending rushes to editors; liaising with scientists for film approval; broadcasting content and generating social media marketing for YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Topics covered so far include deepfakes; malaria vaccines; the pandemic; scientific exploration to find cancer cures; the role of groundwater; Northern White Rhino fertility project and reintroducing lions, among much more.
I am actively developing my skills towards the wildlife documentary sector, but have previous experience researching conservation stories for books, producing natural history animations for international clients (including the Oxford University Museum of Natural History) and interviewing well-known scientists including Professor Alice Roberts and Dr Simon Clarke. As an avid storyteller, meticulous research and excellent visual content creation skills allow me to showcase compelling stories in engaging formats for audiences. I am proficient in video editing (especially short form videos for social media) and seek to transfer my skills and knowledge from academia to the natural history filmmaking sector. I am actively looking for researcher, production management or communications roles within the industry.
