Having spent the first 15 years of my television career imbedded at the highly acclaimed independent production company Icon Films, I was able hone my craft on two fronts, as both a DOP and an offline editor. After several years simultaneously climbing the ranks in both the camera and post production departments, it wasn't long before I was both shooting and cutting Icon Films' most premium content.
Now, as freelancer, I continue to work as both a DOP and an offline editor, sometimes fulfilling both roles on a single production (offering a unique and consistent vision from the location all the way through to the edit), but also often being brought in solely as either a DOP or offline editor (depending on the projects requirements).
Here's what some top industry individuals say about my work...
“Over the last six years Ross has made an extraordinary contribution to our series Primal Survivor. He’s spearheaded the strong visuals and editing style that has ensured this series became a returning hit. I highly recommend him”
Carolyn Payne – Commissioning Editor (Disney+ Star & National Geographic)
“I have known Ross for over 10 years, and he is truly one of the most creative, decent and hardworking people I’ve ever worked with. As a D.O.P he will research and prep every shoot and always want to stretch his skill set. He is superb with talent and can make any Director feel at ease while delivering absolutely premium content and imagery.
He is also an elite editor who adds layer upon layer of narrative and will work harder than anyone to find the right shot and cut.
Ross is fundamentally somebody who you want to work with and literally everyone I have paired him with feels this way. His commitment to making good television and his loyalty to whatever team he is working within is second to none”. I cannot recommend him enough.
Stephen McQuillan – Creative Director (Atomic Television)
“Ross is a highly capable DOP with an impressive range of skills. Not just a good eye but highly adaptable, meticulous and hard-working, who can always be relied upon to take difficult conditions in his stride. He’s particularly good at the choreography of the dynamic set piece, and when shooting real action as it unfolds, he’s a natural at keeping his peripheral vision engaged and anticipating how the configuration of players might change – which is invaluable when you don’t get a second chance. In short, a true enthusiast for his craft and a pleasure to work with, who would be a strong addition to any presenter-led production.” Jeremy Wade – Presenter (River Monsters)
I’ve worked with Ross on many productions both on location and in the edit, and he is one of the most hardworking, reliable and capable people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. In the field he is fearless, has a great eye, a winning way with talent and great technical knowledge to get us out of any tight spot. Whatever the project, Ross’s name would be first on my team sheet. He has all the skills, and he really cares. Book him, before somebody else does.
