Read More My academic background in Documentary Film (MA) and Antrhopology (BA) has fuelled a passion for exploring social histories, craft and sport through film, particularly how these areas shape individual and community identities. Combining anthropology and film, together with my extensive experience in journalism, has equipped me with a multidisciplinary skill set spanning research, interviewing, production, filming, editing, written and verbal communication, story development and identifying and contacting contributors.
Working as assistant to renowned film director Lynne Ramsay for several years has demanded a strong sense of logistics and organisation while simultaneously being required to provide creative feedback when reading or editing scripts. In addition to organising meetings, travel and maintaining diaries, I frequently attend meetings to keep notes, compile research documents on location scouts or casting and maintain expense accounts. Working on several major projects concurrently demands that I balance my time effectively and maintain a high level of discretion.
For the past eight years, I have worked as a writer, specialising in art, film, photography and sport. Having written well over 1000 articles across print and online, in addition to conducting over 250 interviews, my track record in pitching, researching and writing is evidenced by contributions to the Guardian, FT, Frieze, Wallpaper*, ArtReview, AnOther, i-D and The Face among others. Demanding strong research skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines, my editorial experience has also helped me identify compelling stories and the most effective angle of approach.
Working as a self-shooting director on a range of personal projects mean I have developed a proficiency in all stages of film production, from filming and editing to recording sound and post-production. From my film on the UK's last bell foundry, to film's about artists in their studio, and the impact of Covid bereavements on the UK's elderly, my ethnographic training allows me to approach each project with a sensitivity to detail and authenticity, ensuring that the stories capture the nuances of human experience.
