Read MoreI am an aspiring filmmaker with a love for film and TV and have had this passion from an early age. It began when I found myself being immersed in film when going to the cinema. I loved the pictures, not just for the story or actors but for the technical wizardry! My favourite film; It Follows, directed by David Robert Mitchell left me in awe at the age of 14. I left the cinema with a dream to be apart of a cinematic masterpiece like it.
During school I didn’t have an option to study film or media but found myself studying filmmaking on YouTube. I had an interest for effects and techniques that achieved bringing a script to life! I then went on to study A-level Film Studies and Creative Writing where I learned the theory behind film and scripts. After my first year I decided I wanted to be in a practical environment, actually creating my own media.
This lead to me study BTEC L3 Creative Media Production and it really did change me as a practitioner! I learned a lot about working in a team as different roles, working to schedules and making a film from start to finish!
Throughout my time in college, I gained numerous roles as a supporting artist in many well known productions such as Luther, Jack Ryan and The Boys on The Boat to name a few. This was a great way to see how a professional set and crew operates and gave me more passion for the industry every time I was on a set!
Trying to gain as much knowledge and experience as possible, I enrolled onto the National Youth Film Academy in Easter of 2018. It was a great experience where a group of us produced a film and had talks from industry professionals such as Director Gareth Edwards! I went on to work with some of the group members in my own projects too after!
In summer 2018 I worked as a movie making instructor at a summer camp in New York. This was a very fast paced environment that required a lot of adapting to the different age groups that attended. My main roles were to deliver activities for the different ages but also capture videos of main events on camp and deliver them to the directors in a quick time scale.
Shortly after leaving college in 2019, I found the BFI Film Academy which was a great way to carry on my learning from industry professionals. The course was delivered by Bournemouth based production company; White Lantern. It was inspiring to learn about the regional film industry and be able to produce a film with other like-minded individuals in a professional film studio. I was given the role of production designer and was great to learn about the department and how to communicate with the other crew!
Also after leaving college, I decided to go into the freelance world doing photography and videography. This was a huge change in my career and taught me a lot about customer service, networking and it helped to build my technical knowledge further. I’m now looking for entry level opportunities within the industry to build my CV. I hope to be apart of monumental and influential productions someday and network with others in the industry.
