Previously, I was working as one of the Guardian's community affairs correspondents and a lead investigative reporter at the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.
Prior to this, I was a political news journalist and spent 5 years working in the lobby at both the BBC and Sky News
About myself, my name is Dahaba Ali Hussen and I graduated in 2017 from the University of Cambridge with a first class BA Hons degree in History.
Despite studying at Cambridge, I don’t come from the narrow scope of society most Cambridge students do and I came to the UK aged 10 from the Netherlands via secondary immigration.
My mother fled the Somali civil war in the 1990s and I grew up in the Somali diaspora in London. Throughout my lived and observed experience, I feel as though I have developed a diverse voice and I’m able to produce content that relates to and resonates with people from different backgrounds.
In addition to this, I worked as a radio producer with Whistledown studios and I have produced documentaries for BBCRadio4 and BBC World Service.
In terms of print and digital, I have by-lines in The Financial Times, The Independent, The Huffington Post, The ipaper, The Metro, Stylist Magazine, Time Out and more and I occasionally work as an editor for The i paper.
