As a Rushes Runner, I gained valuable insights into the workings of a production and the highs and lows that come with it. Through my role, I was able to connect with a variety of different departments and people, mainly the Production, AD, and Camera teams, through my time in both the Production Office and at the Production Base.
My main responsibility was to collect the rushes from the DIT daily upon wrap and transport them from location to the Post Production House, PictureShop in Manchester. During this time, I gained a good relationship with the DIT and communicated effectively with each other to allow the rushes collection to be as smooth as possible.
On a day-to-day basis, I was tasked with creating Easy Read Call Sheets, Raising POs, Distributing scripts/schedules, collecting deliveries, and driving both Cast and Crew to take to recces and set.
While being a Beyond Brontës 2024 trainee, I learned key industry-specific information, which was vital for me to succeed in my first industry job role. Learning the information meant my transition onto set was seamless, for example, through knowledge of set etiquette and how to read a call sheet, etc.
During Beyond Brontës, we undertook an on-set training weekend which gave us on-set experience in the safety of our programme, meaning it was less daunting arriving on set for our first jobs. We also had access to industry-trained professionals throughout the weekend, allowing them to demonstrate and answer questions where needed. During the weekend, I had the opportunity to undertake the roles of 1st AC and BTS, meaning I had hands-on experience helping behind the camera and also capturing the day in BTS.
Experience at a small Production Company after University enhanced my Camera and Editing skills, working within a hardworking creative team and liaising with clients to produce films to a high standard.
At University, I was the camera operator for many projects across my modules, including creating a documentary and a short film and also turning my hand to script writing.
I work confidently and enjoy being within group situations, where ideas and actions can be bounced around from one another. I have a passion for being behind the camera and a willingness to learn and adapt to progress and gather new skills, which will aid me in the future.
