Budding Journalist recently graduated from a BA Joint honours degree in Journalism, media and English literature at Cardiff University. Pursuing practical experience from the best experts in the industry to develop my journalistic skills in creating exceptional content. Alongside my academic studies I have participated in extracurricular work to gain practical, hands-on experience through writing articles for The Tab and hosting and producing live radio shows on Xpress Radio Cardiff. Actively writing for national youth news site The Tab is where I began thinking as a journalist, constantly reacting to breaking news stories and collaborating with participants and editors to expand my proficiency as a journalist, conducting interviews within a range of different circumstances and working precisely to plan, research and execute stories under close deadlines. Along with writing for the Tab, I produce and present radio shows every week for Wales’ largest student radio, Xpress Radio Station, with one show presented independently focusing on specialty music and one entertainment show alongside a co-host. I was recently awarded ‘Best Entertainment Show’ 2022 at the Cardiff Student Media Awards, judged exclusively by industry professionals, for producing and presenting radio show ‘C&C FM’ with fellow co-host. Through working independently and collaboratively I have established how to productively communicate and advance my skills through observational adaption. The show has required me to be proactive within my knowledge of current affairs and encouraged consistent progression in both content and delivery to refine the shows engagement. Having exponential understanding of social media outlets has been a crucial instrument in expanding engagement and creating the shows Instagram account @cianandcharlie_fm has gained insight into the audience and developed my digital presence as an assured journalist. Establishing myself as a journalist has not been straightforward, but my self-confidence and suitability for the role has established itself as I have matured and strived to put myself forward.
