Nigel is probably the best showrunner I have ever had the privilege to work with. Drain the Oceans was a complicated series with many moving parts and he brought a calm serenity to what had the potential to be a very stressful position, backed by heaps of experience both in terms of production and directing. His command of a story, allowing the whole film to develop in a riveting and compelling way is superb. His eye for a picture means that he is as brilliant in the field as he is in the cutting room. And when it comes to dealing with the client he has a deftness of touch that lets them feel their problems and anxieties are being dealt with to the betterment of the film. Would I work with him again? Absolutely!
Nigel is a talented and persuasive producer/director who has worked with a wide range of on screen talent, making a variety of blue-chip documentaries. He handles editorial demands and practical constraints well and is especially experienced in dealing with the delivery of high-end graphics.
He regularly delivers films that combine visual flair and powerful story-telling.
Nigel is a top notch PD who thinks hard about his craft, directs beautifully, works well with presenters and knows his way around a story. I've had no hesitation in trusting him with really demanding shoots like the Crystal Cave sequence for How Earth Made Us, which was a logistical and H&S nightmare, but came out as the most memorable moment in the series.
Nigel is a fantastic director; he has a wonderful eye capable of transforming even the most everyday scenarios into something beautiful to behold. On Alternative Therapies (BBC Two) he showed his skill and ability to deal with sensitive and contentious material whilst never losing sight of the objective of the series. He is also a delight to work with. I have no hesitation in recommending him highly - and warmly.
Nigel played an outstanding role in this series. His episode on 18C Classical architecture was beautifully directed with lots of confident swooping jib shots and thoughtfully planned sequences.
