Over the past two decades, I have run the gamut of roles in TV/film production, photography, advertising and marketing as well as more recently in education. My robust administrative and IT skills have been honed through working in large organisations through to smaller creative companies, where the ability to constantly adapt and learn was paramount. My experience in the TV and film industry in Melbourne familiarised me with all processes relating to pre and post-production. I started out as Producers’ Assistant and worked my way up to Production Coordinator on TVCs at Apollo Films, as well as working in Art Department on a number of TV series as a freelancer. In this capacity, I had to manage my time effectively and work autonomously and proactively. With Jemma Watts Photography, I organised and produced shoots, managed budgets and processed paperwork accordingly. My strong research skills were put to good use too, through extensive analysis of consumer and competitor behaviour in order to inform the rebrand and marketing strategy. In the teacher training setting I honed my skills to the next level, having to meet constant deadlines and manage unfathomable workloads (not to mention managing the students). I believe that this experience has given me an invaluable set of transferable tools to work with, particularly around project and time management. In my current role, I manage the students’ wellbeing and progress, I’m a Sixth Form Tutor and Academic Coach and help students develop good study and life skills. The nature of my role means that I am often dealing with highly sensitive information and safeguarding issues which can be difficult and require a high level of maturity, empathy and discretion...along with thinking on my feet and making quick decisions. An entrepreneurial spirit has allowed me to successfully contribute to community regeneration as well as harnessing my creativity for each purpose – the social enterprise cafe I set up in 2009 won me the accolade of Islington Volunteer of the Year and the pop-up Film in the Park cinema event which I produced attracted people from across London, featured in Time Out and raised close to £5000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital. The key to my achievements over the years lies in my interpersonal skills and ability to connect with people at all levels. My love of film and broad experience in various industries coupled with maturity, discretion and a creative mindset I believe give me a solid platform upon which to revisit a career in production.
