Antonio Santa Maria is a scriptwriter, an actor and a film director.
Grown up in Cape Verde Islands, he attended in 2001 an university course in Cinema & Multimedia at the ULHT in Lisbon, Portugal. After highs and lows during the period of studies, he decided to quit and started to produce and direct along with a friend a documentary about the lives of the young cape Verdean university students in Lisbon.Despite the fact that the documentary took some years to get finished it was rewarding. Having hands on practice allowed him to experience different jobs in the filmmaking process since he wrote, directed, shot and edited the film as well as dealt with the marketing aspects of the film.
The documentary was screened in the first Film Festival in Praia, capital of Cape Verde Island and was presented afterwards in many high schools. In 2009, he started a three months internship period on the Cape Verdean National Television station and ended up being hired as a news director and a news editor in that TV station.
After two years of experience working with journalists in the editing room and directing news and entertaining shows he decided to improve his skills in filmmaking and enrolled in 2013 in the One year Filmmaking programme at the New York Film Academy in New York City.In 2016 he won the fourth prize with his video in a competition sponsored by a Beverage company. The fourth prize was created especially to reward his video. In search for cultural and spiritual experiences, he started in 2018 to travel around the European countries.
He finally settled down in Switzerland in 2020.
After trying intuitive painting, he started the studies in lyric singing, jazz singing and classical violin in the Music Conservatory in the city of Neuchâtel.Being a victim of injustice in the swiss society since his arrival, he created in January 2022, Voix Immigrant (Immigrant Voice), an informal group which the main goal is to give voice to the immigrants in the world.
Currently he's raising funds to produce a documentary about the events that occurred in his that led him to create this NGO.
