Martin Kiszko has been composing music and writing poetry and stories since he was a boy growing up in the immigrant district of Leeds and later on a South Leeds council estate. After miraculously finding his way at age ten into studies at Leeds City College of Music, he attended Bretton Hall College (University of Leeds) and was awarded BA Creative Arts. Subsequently, he was awarded his Post-graduate Certificate in Radio, Film and Television from Bristol University and won the student award to write, direct and score his film Skokholm Light. He later acquired a PhD in Ethnomusicology from the University of Bristol and most recently the university awarded him an honorary DLitt for his work in poetry and the environment.He has over 200 film, TV soundtrack, and concert credits and nine albums released with Europe’s finest orchestras. Amongst his award-winning scores are the BBC’s Realms of the Russian Bear, Dreamworks commissioned by the BBC NHU and Steven Spielberg, and an Ivors Academy Composer of the Year Award for his work Inua. Martin also composed and conducted the score for the BAFTA nominated movie The Killing of John Lennon.Martin was also the co-founder of and visiting lecturer on Bristol University’s MA in the Composition of Music for Film and Television. He still gives talks at universities and events around the world.
