After immersing myself in the world of Visual Anthropology at the University of Manchester during the early 90s, I embarked on a remarkable journey that would define the next two decades of my life. My focus has been on crafting documentaries for British television, with me taking on the roles of director and cinematographer for a significant 90% of these productions.

My work has transported me to diverse and often remote communities across the globe. I've delved into the lives of the Buddhist Layap community nestled high in the Bhutanese Himalayas and documented the struggles of the Penan, hunter-gatherers whose ancestral forests in Sarawak face grave threats from logging activities. My travels also led me to the solitude of Siberia, where I connected with Eveni reindeer herders, and to the bustling slums of Lagos, where resourceful migrants eke out their livelihoods.

In Peru and Brazil, I've explored the complex interplay between poverty and rainforest destruction. Even in the isolated forests of West Papua, I've witnessed the transformative impact of the cash economy on the Korowai people.

Throughout this extraordinary journey, I've encountered stories that defy imagination: surviving a plane crash in the Brazilian Amazon, traversing the unforgiving deserts of Saddam's Iraq, capturing the profound impact of ayahuasca on a self-proclaimed shaman in the Peruvian rainforest, and documenting the surreal quest to save the rainforest by purchasing it.

In the Pacific, I filmed a remote community of villagers who worship Prince Philip and now King Charles as their deities. In Japan, I witnessed an Englishman who set out to understand their culture through fish but ended up in a panda suit, tethered to a microlight.

It's been an awe-inspiring rollercoaster of an expedition, and I feel deeply privileged to have chronicled a small part of the diverse tapestry of our world.

I have won many major UK awards, including from BAFTA, the Royal Television Society, Broadcast and the Televisual Awards and am an Honorary Lecturer at Manchester University. Read Less
