She has worked on a number of fiction, non-fiction feature films and short films in the production department. In 2014 she decided to take the leap as a documentary film director and directed her first feature documentary titled Black Sheep that looks into equal rights for the female transgender community in India.
The film went on to be part of numerous film festivals and won multiple international award and has been distributed internationally as well as being part of educational curriculums in the US and Asia. She was awarded the titles of ‘filmmaker of inspiration’ and ‘human rights filmmaker’ under the banner of the World Human Rights Film Festival in 2016. Since her first feature film she has also been an associate producer for an Emirati documentary titled ‘know your freedom’. She has also directed and produced short documentaries, Victor and The Undertaker. The Undertaker has been well received through social media channels internationally, having over 100,000 views and has received positive attention from UAE based newspapers. Reshel’s most recent feature documentary film, GOD CHILDREN narrates the story of two boys seen as an incarnation of Hindu Gods in India, the film went to win Best Documentary Feature film in the Middle East, where it was against titles from Fox and Nat Geo. The film has now been licensed in a number of countries as well as available on Amazon Prime in English speaking countries. In November 2019 Reshel pitched her next documentary The Doctor and his Daughters at the ON DXB content competition, where she won first prize of $10,000, where she is considered the first winner under the banner under film production.
According to Reshel making documentary films is about providing a platform and a voice to those who need it the most, as well telling stories that are unique. Being a director for documentary films is not only about having a strong story to bring to an audience but to also connect and create a strong relationship with the contributors of the films.
When she is not working on a production she is the Programme Leader for MA Production Management, TV, Film and Digital Media. She believes that if a creative has the skills, it is important to guide and share that knowledge with younger generations who have the potential to become great filmmakers
