Specialist factual P/D, natural history cinematographer and International League of Conservation Photographers Emerging League filmmaker.

I specialise in telling impactful human and engaging scientific, wildlife and environmental stories, experienced making beautiful natural history films with elusive subjects, from arid desert and freezing sub-arctic conditions.

PhD in animal cognition (senses, making decisions and navigation), specialist in directing and shooting animal behaviour sequences: from motion control for macro and microscopy, to long lens, gimbal, low light, UV/IR and remote camera work.

I have worked in broadcast, feature documentary, commercial and charity sectors (P/D, cinematography and post-production credits: BBC NHU, Streamers, independent) to craft natural history narratives about how people and animals overcome challenges and how animal behaviour is changing in the face of environmental change. My subject knowledge and cinematography flair spans zoology, low light optics and microscope design.

As a skilled field director, producer and natural history cinematographer with 200+ days in the field in 2022-2024  on a variety of conservation film projects, I am always excited to develop innovative natural history, science and environmental film projects.

My skills include:
- Building relationships and developing stories with contributors, land-owners and talent.
- Pitching and commissioning funding (>£2.5M portfolio since 2012: grants, brands, charities)
- Extensive academic research and shooting PD experience, confident multi-operator field director and edit producer.
- Setting up complex foreign shoots: crew, kit, insurance, budget, logistics, H&S and risk assessments.
- Collaborating to produce (develop, film and edit) factual natural history sequences.
- Lighting, directing and shooting beautiful multicam location interviews, in all environments.
- Safeguarding and working with sensitive contributors.
- CAA-qualified commercial remote pilot (A2 C of C), experienced negotiating flight plans and aerial filming permissions.
- Owner-operator covering long-lens, macro, narrative, aerial and everything in between.
- Skilled long-lens and moco operator (Red Raptor, Red Komodo, ZCam, Sony Alpha series, Canon CN20x50).
- Cutting-edge motion control in remote environments ("spy in the wild" cameras, aerial, wire-cam).
- Specialist low-light filming experience (starlight, full spectrum, IR)
- Specialist macro/microscopy filming (probe lens, compound, fluorescence & widefield microscopy, burrow lenses).
- Overseeing solid DIT workflows in remote locations, collaborating on international edit. 
- Extensive knowledge of natural history, conservation and environmental topics (working with rangers, scientists and trackers).
- Confident on water: snorkelling, freediving, shooting from kayaks etc.
- Backed by full commercial production, kit and £5M Public Liability insurance.

My passion is developing human and animal perspectives and capturing beautiful natural history sequence work that tells the story of how environment shapes behaviour. I’ve worked all over the world and am comfortable working in all environments.
