I am a South African video storyteller with 12+ year experience in producing, scripting, shooting and editing online video for news websites, as well as photography. I have a passion for environmental and conservation stories, which is reflected in the awards I have received for work featuring stories with a focus on these topics. I started my journalism career with BBC local radio in the Channel Islands, but then moved to Cape Town where I worked as a multimedia journalist for a decade. During this time I gained recognition for environmental stories, including water pollution, marine poaching and drought,In 2016 I went freelance to pursue bigger projects and television projects, and went on assignment to Uganda for UNICEF to film a video series on the South Sudan refugee crisis, and co-produced a documentary on the diabetes epidemic for television channel ENCA. A year later I was head-hunted to oversee online short documentaries and interactive features at the largest news site in South Africa - News24. I also took on team management duties and won more awards for stories with environmental themes, specifically looking at the impacts of drought.I have shot in a huge variety of locations, and interviewed notable public figures and celebrities, including Desmond Tutu, Richard Branson, Jane Goodall, John Cleese, Sixto Rodriguez and FW de Klerk to name but a few.Since 2020 I have been living in the UK and also teaching video journalism as a university lecturer.Jackson Wild Fellow 2021.
