I have produced and directed factual documentaries for terrestrial network channels including BBC and ITV1. My most recent commission that I produced, directed and self shot was nominated for a BAFTA and Grierson Award. I have produced history and science shows including Horizon and the One Show. I work with talent both on and off screen, developing ideas through to commission and into production.I also work closely with experts in their fields ranging from laywers through to accademics.
I have successfully developed landmark, award winning presenter led series, factual dramas and single documentary films. I have worked across all factual genres, developing ideas that range from ancient history and archaeology to natural history, science, religion and true crime. I have excellent writing skills and can write stand out treatments and have made my own tasters that have led directly to commissions. I have gained access to unique stories that have ranged from underwater shipwrecks to ISIS returnees. I always try to bring new storytelling techniques to factual subjects, whether that be authored pieces, new revelatory evidence, state of the art technology and new talent. My pitches have ranged from detailed treatments taking a commission into production, to quick turn around two pagers. In some cases I have taken projects on through production.
I have had my own ideas commissioned by network channels and have built relationships with commissioners. I also thrive in a development team, do love a brainstorm and any kind of collaboration. My commissions most recently have included an ITV1 documentary following Britain's first female ISIS returnee, that I produced and directed and the 90 minute film for BBC 2, ''The Flu that Killed 50 Million'. I have also produced a BBC Horizon on ancient stone age civilisations for BBC science, gained commissions for the One Show and in BBC religion I have 2 commissions, Silk Road (BBC 4) and Michael Scott's Sicily (BBC 2). During my time in history at the BBC, I achieved 8 history commissions, including BAFTA award winning, 'Britain's Forgotten Slave Owners'. I make sure I know what the latest approaches, trends and cutting edge technologies are that might bring new life to a subject, a format, making a project more attractive to a commissioner.
