I also made silicone moulds for furniture and set dressing repeats such as plant pots, brickwork, floor tiles, vases and plates. Following this I worked as head props maker and painter for The Bristol Old Vic Theatre working with designers and directors on large scale in house productions. In 2011 I completed an MA in Set and Costume Design at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, since then I have worked on and designed many theatre and television projects including puppet design, devised pieces, site specific, touring and Christmas shows. Within a production my role is to conceive sets and costumes which help to tell a story or give weight to or enhance the personality traits of a character, both working in collaboration and giving support to the director to help realise their vision, creating scale models and communicating all the design and technical elements to the technicians/stage management and production manager, working with lighting and sound designers and actors. In depth script and character analysis is crucial along with historical research and decisions on era and location setting. Working to critical deadlines, managing budgets and organising crew, equipment and materials. On a practical level I often realise and or oversee the set/prop making and painting of my designs.
